The painting is given context to clarify the subject and object. Since color and the material impact is not portrayed accurately the painting as a still life element will be.
Painting abstractly develops literally step by step. There are in a sense no mistakes. This is not to say there are no weaknesses or strengths. This is to say you are reliant on experiences developed and developing. One relies on senses, taste, maybe weaknesses in the sense of desire or passion. Since the painting has no beginning or end you are surely in the middle of it.
